Following the cessation of manufacturing activities, the area of a former production plant was subjected to environmental investigations, which revealed some exceedances of the reference Contamination Threshold Concentrations in the surface soil.
Following the partial demolition of the existing buildings and the removal of the topsoil, Pro Iter Ambiente was commissioned to plan and conduct an environmental investigation to verify any residual contamination still present on site and to investigate areas inaccessible before the demolition of the buildings.
The working group was responsible for designing the investigation plan, organizing and supervising the work, and producing the technical report.
ContinuePreparation of a Investigation Plan.
Execution of an investigation campaign on the soil matrix by performing 11 geognostic surveys.
Execution of an investigation campaign on groundwater.
Preparation of a descriptive technical report.
Specifically, the activities consisted of:
- Preparation of a investigation plan by positioning survey points based on the results of the previous investigation campaign (paying particular attention to areas exceeding reference concentrations) and investigating areas with potentially environmentally critical operations that were inaccessible prior to the demolition of the buildings.
- Execution of a soil matrix survey campaign by drilling 11 geognostic cores to depths between 3 and 5 m below ground level, redefined following the scotic survey. Two soil samples were collected from each core drilled to a depth of 3 m from ground level, while three soil samples were collected from core drills drilled to a depth of 5 m from ground level.
- Conducting a groundwater survey campaign, monitoring the piezometers found to be intact and accessible following the site's demolition and decontamination activities.
- Preparing a technical report describing the activities performed and the analytical results obtained.
The surveys conducted provided new information on the qualitative status of the environmental matrices present on site and updated the site's conceptual model.
