The Environmental Due Diligence (DDA) represents the set of activities aimed at identifying liabilities associated with critical environmental issues and identifying risks that may affect the cost of buying and selling.

The DDA is normally divided into two phases depending on the level of investigation: the Phase I environmental audit and Phase II environmental investigations.

Pro Iter Ambiente S.r.l. has been appointed to carry out a Phase II Environmental Due Diligence for the Almax Spa plant in Mariano Comense (CO).

The Phase II Due Diligence was carried out on the basis of the information obtained during the Phase I Due Diligence performed by Pro Iter Ambiente S.r.l. in August 2016. The purpose of this activity was to perform a study of the area aimed at identifying possible environmental liabilities related to past and present use of the areas.

Implementation of the Phase II DDA, including the design of the survey plan, organization and supervision of the work and production of technical reports.

In detail, the activities consisted of:

1) Preparation of a survey plan by placement of survey points made according to the outcomes of the Phase I DDA;

2) Execution of a campaign of investigation of the soil matrix through the execution of n. 9 geognostic soundings pushed to a depth of 5 m from ground level of which n.4 equipped with probes for the monitoring of interstitial gases. In correspondence of every survey n.3 soil samples have been taken and submitted to the analytical determination of the following parameters: BTEXS, PAHs, metals and VOCs;

3) Execution of an investigation campaign on the groundwater matrix through the realization of n.3 piezometers pushed to depths between 20 and 22 m from the surface and the subsequent monitoring of groundwater. The samples taken were subjected to the determination of the following parameters: Total Hydrocarbons, BTEXS, PAHs, metals and VOCs;

4) Execution of a monitoring campaign of interstitial gases from the installed probes. The samples taken were subjected to analytical determination of the parameters: BTEXS and Total Organic Solvents;

5) Preparation of a technical report describing the activities carried out and the analytical results obtained.

Following the results of the Phase I Environmental Due Diligence carried out in August 2016, Pro Iter Ambiente S.r.l. was commissioned to plan and carry out an environmental investigation (Phase II DDA) with the aim of verifying and assessing the extent of any environmental liabilities present at the site.

The investigations carried out did not reveal any critical environmental issues, therefore it was not necessary to proceed with notification of the Public Administration.
